A seed must live so it can grow into a plant (King Neuropsych version of John 12:24)?

I cannot trust the Bible anymore because of John 12:24. A seed most certainly doesn't die before it grows, unless Jesus was telling a joke. But making it a joke would make the other half of the ogy the other half of the joke. For example, "A pig cannot fly until it flaps its wings. Likewise, I'll fall to the bottom of that cliff when I jump off unless I flap my wings and fly away. One preposterous thing can be compared to another preposterous thing to make a riddle that, when solved, dawns light upon the reader to put the book down.
