Is the American education system being manipulated by the religious right?

No. When a nation no longer teaches it history as it was then it is being manipulated. It is not wrong to teach the Constitution which many today do not know. Is it wrong when neither side of an issue is proved to not show both sides of the story or do you not want children to be able to make their own decisions.
