Why is , drugs and alcohol becoming such an issue at younger ages?

Kids are trying to grow up way too fast, and being way too promiscuous. I see so many questions on here where youngens' are asking about and partying, and the profiles on Myspace where they basically are asking for trouble. Why are teenagers, and even pre-teens, trying to act way older than their age? What is the desire to grow up so fast?
