Why can't I get a straight answer from Sony?

When I purchased my PS2 I had the God of War game with it.I got to the end level on god mode and all I had to do was kill Ares and unlock other features.The disk would not load.No message just not loading.I purchased God of War 2 and that won't load at all.I contacted Sony who told me that because the disks are double layered they may not play on my console. I contacted Sony consumer dept. who emailed me instructions on how to put a disk in properly and how to clean it. These games are made by Sony for Sony consoles.But if they won't load or stop playing half way through I think that is a bit of a rip off.I contacted them again and was basically told to buy a new console.Their website lists games that may not play but God of War is not one of them.Has anyone else had any problems of the same ilk?
