If God were not an issue?

Why is it that people keep using god to scare others into doing what they themselves want? Our country was founded on religious and personal freedom and god gave man free will, which we have exercised to elect Obama as our president. The very freedoms you cite (Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights) has insured our freedom -- our freedom to chose a man to move this country forward, repair our tarnished image in the world, and get the man responsible for 9/11 (Bin Laden).
