How can I convince the dad that a pacifier will be ok?

I have a 2.5 week old baby girl-- and her dad does not want her to have a pacifier at all!! He thinks that she is going to be dependent on it and that she will be using a pacifier until she is 2 or older. I don't think that will be the case-- she just likes to suck and suck-- even after I have nursed her... sometimes she is up for 2 hours after she eats. I know she is not hungry anymore-- I think she is full cuz after she is done eating she will be calm for a little while and then she will want to suck on something-- so I put her back on my and then she spits up a whole lot...what a waste of milk, lol... But today at grandma's house we gave her a pacifier and she loved it. When she fell asleep she just dropped it out of her mouth. How can I convince her dad that it will be ok to give her one? And what are your thoughts about pacifiers?
