Why are our criminal punishments so weak?

I was at my barber & was watching some natgeo program about prison. Geez do they live it up. Saw a guy who killed someone wearing a tank top with some cargo pants. Of course he has to have big muscles since they get free wieght equip. If he just got 20yrs and be out again, nothing will change his mind to kill again. Prison easy. No wonder we have repeated offenders. Kidnap someone (no matter for how long) and get like 10yrs. Then we got defense lawyers who are just there to make sure the case goes accordingly but is now fighting to keep them out of prison! Today we need alarms and locks on everything. People don't even want to live on the 1st floor of apartments in fear of a robbery/ who will just get a year on their first offense. Get caught with some cocaine (depending with how much) and get a slap on the wrist and you have to attend some B.S. "don't do drugs" program. What a joke! Yeah thats going to show them. Get caught driving drunk & you should be forbidden to operate a go-cart but naw just suspend their license for 3months, that'll show them.
